Interactions with and Links to Third-Party Sites

The Website may contain links to other websites, mobile applications, or Internet locations (collectively “Third-Party Sites”), as a convenience to the user.  For example, we may use Third-Party Sites to enable single sign-on, facilitate emails, text messages, blog postings, tweets or Facebook postings, or in connection with receiving donations.  The Website may also permit you to interact with a Third-Party Site while on the Website, such as interacting with social media postings, an embedded map, or watching embedded videos.   We have no control over and are not responsible for Third-Party Sites, their privacy practices, their content, or any goods or services available through the Third-Party Sites.  Our Privacy Statement does not apply to Third-Party Sites; any information you provide to a Third-Party Site is subject to that Third-Party Site’s privacy policy or privacy statement.  You should carefully review the applicable privacy policies or privacy statements before using or engaging with any Third-Party Site on any of the Websites.

Social Network Widgets

Our Website and Services may include social network sharing widgets that may provide information to their associated social networks or third-parties about your interactions with our web pages that you visit, even if you do not click on or otherwise interact with the plug-in or widget.  Information is transmitted from your browser and may include an identifier assigned by the social network or third party, information about your browser type, operating system, device type, IP address, and the URL of the web page where the widget appears.  If you use social networking tools or visit social networking sites, we encourage you to read their privacy disclosures to learn what information they collect, use, and share.

Interest-Based Advertising

Interest-based advertising is advertising that is targeted to you based on your web browsing and usage of certain apps over time and across websites or apps.  We do not engage in Interest-based advertising or provide information you provide to us in connection with the Services (including protected classifications).  However, your visits to certain pages of the Website containing embedded information from Third-Party Sites (for example, YouTube videos or Google maps) and interaction with that embedded information may be used for Interest-based advertising on other websites by third parties.  You have the option to restrict the use of information for interest-based advertising and to opt-out of receiving interest-based ads.  Depending on where you access the Services from, you may also be asked to consent to our use of cookies, including advertising cookies.  See the Interactions with and Links to Third-Party Sites section for more information.

The opt-outs for interest-based advertising require that strictly necessary cookies are not blocked by the settings in your web browser.  If you live in the United States, you can visit Ad Choices (US) to find a convenient place to opt-out of interest-based advertising with participating entities for each region.  That website also provides detailed information about how interest-based advertising works.  Opting out does not mean that you will no longer receive advertising when you use the Internet.  It just means that the data collected from our Website will not be used for interest-based advertising and that the advertising you see displayed on websites will not be customized to your interests.

Do-Not-Track

Do-Not-Track is a public-private initiative that has developed a “flag” or signal that an Internet user may activate in the user’s browser software to notify websites that the user does not wish to be “tracked” by third-parties as defined by the initiative.  Please note that the Services do not alter their behavior or use practices when we receive a “Do-Not-Track” signal from browser software.

Use of Cookies and Similar Technologies

A “cookie” is a small text file that a web server stores in browser software.  A browser sends cookies to a server when the browser makes a connection to the server (for example, when requesting a web page from the same domain that created the cookie).  The purpose of cookies is to remember the browser over time and distinguish one browser instance (or user) from all others.  Some cookies and other technologies may serve to track personal information previously entered by a web user on the Websites.  Cookies can remember login information, preferences, and similar information.  Cookies, as well as other tracking technologies, such as HTML5 local storage, and Local Shared Objects (such as “Flash” cookies), and similar mechanisms, may record information such as a unique identifier, information you enter in a form, IP address, and other categories.  We may use cookies to collect certain information about you and your use of our services and offerings, such as IP addresses, domain names, and the type of device and operating system being used.  We may also use cookies to identify your device when you revisit the Website to, for example, recall your authentication information or to track statistical information related to navigation throughout the Website.  The UCB App currently uses Google Analytics.  Please read "How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps," which you can find at www.google.com/policies/privacy/partners/, for information about how Google Analytics collects and processes data.  If you wish to opt out of Google Analytics, please visit https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

We may also use web beacons or "pixels," and in certain circumstances may collect IP address, screen resolution and browser software and operating system types, clickstream patterns, dates and times that our site is accessed, and other categories of data.

Most browsers allow you to control cookies, including whether or not to accept them and how to remove them.  If you want to block the use and saving of cookies from the Website on to the computer’s hard drive, you should take the necessary steps within your web browser’s settings to block all cookies from the Services and external serving vendors.  Please note that if you choose to erase or block your cookies, certain parts of our Services may not function correctly.  For information on how to disable cookies, refer to your browser’s documentation.

If you believe an individual under 13 years of age has provided us with Personal Information without parental consent, please contact us using the information in the "Contact Us" section below.

Retention of Personal Information

We will retain your Personal Information for as long as necessary to fulfill the business purposes for which we obtained the Personal Information, including to provide our services and offerings, or for such longer period as may be required or permitted by applicable law.  We will also retain your Personal Information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.  We use the following criteria to set our retention periods:  (a) the duration of our relationship with you; (b) the purposes for processing your Personal Information; (c) the existence of a legal or contractual obligation as to the retention period; and (d) the advisability of retaining the information in light of our legal position (for example, in light of applicable statutes of limitations, litigation, or regulatory investigations).

Security and Integrity of Information

We have taken steps to secure and protect your Personal Information from loss, unauthorized access, unauthorized disclosure, misuse, destruction, or alteration.  We implement and employ technical and organizational security measures to safeguard Personal Information.  However, there is always some risk involved in transmitting information over the Internet, and we cannot fully eliminate security risks associated with the storage and transmission of Personal Information, as no security measures are perfect or impenetrable.  If you are a UCB member or otherwise have an account with us and you suspect any unauthorized use of your account or password, or that the security of your account has otherwise been compromised, you should notify us immediately, in accordance with the “Contact Us” section below.
